Zachary’s Steakhouse Comes To The Twin Cities

Yummy, yummy in my tummy! A Kingsport restaurant is expanding to the Twin City. Zachary’s Steakhouse will open at 724 State Street. The restaurant features steaks, chicken dishes, seafood, and sandwiches. There will be a soft opening of the restaurant a few days before Valentine’s Day, the official opening is slated for Feb. 15th.

ALDI Comes To The Falls

Seriously, there are folks who consider shopping a form of entertainment, me included. And, for those who love shopping Aldi I have some great news for ya. An ALDI Food Market is the next tenant planning to locate in The Falls commercial center. The store will be located on Lee Highway, and is expected to open in late 2017. The Falls features anchors Cabela’s and Lowe’s, along with Buffalo Wild Wings, Freddy’s, Sheetz and Zaxby’s.

Barter Theatre Changes Schedule

Barter Theatre has announced an update to its 2017 schedule. The smash-hit musical “Million Dollar Quartet” replaces “Ain’t Misbehavin’” on the Gilliam Stage, formerly called the “Main Stage,” this fall. “Million Dollar Quartet” is inspired by the famed recording session that brought together rock ‘n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time. “Million Dollar Quartet” runs for four weeks, starting Aug. 18, on Barter Theatre’s Gilliam Stage. According to a news release, “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” the celebration of legendary jazz great Fats Waller, will debut during Barter Theatre’s 2018 season.

Magic Book Buses

Two out-to-pasture Greene County school buses are soon to be back on the road again, outfitted in a whole new way and with a new purpose. “Magic Book Buses” will be rolling libraries that this summer will visit each part of Greene County, to share the joy of reading. The main audience for the Magic Book Buses will be young people from infancy through grade 8, though there may be some volumes aimed at older readers as well. Model City Tap House Tap Takeover

This Saturday, February 4th, Studio Brew is taking over the taps at Kingsport’s Model City Tap House. They will feature some of the best beers Studio Brew has to offer, as well as longtime favorites such as the Ferguson, Mex-i-can Backfire, and Daz Pilsner.

Jason Edwards and Randall Shelton Return to the Acoustic Coffeehouse

Singer/Songwriter Jason Edwards and Randall Shelton featuring Travis Miller will return to the Acoustic Coffeehouse in Johnson City on Friday February 3rd at 10:00 pm . The duo is well known for their original brand of music, and high energy shows. They’re preparing to release their debut cd later this year.

Art in Appalachia, Appalachia in the World Speaker Series Set

The Arts Alliance Mountain Empire has joined forces with the Birthplace of Country Music Museum and the William King Museum of Art for its 2016-2017 Speaker Series. Talks centered around the common theme: “Art in Appalachia, Appalachia in the World” are the base for the series. Next Tuesday the Speaker’s Series will feature a film screening of “Banjo Romantika: American Bluegrass Music & The Czech Imagination” at the museum at 7:00 p.m. Filmmaker and ETSU professor Shara Lange will lead the discussion of the documentary.

Contra Dance This Saturday

The Historic Jonesborough Dance Society’s next contra dance is this Saturday, February 4th at the Jonesborough Visitors Center on Boone Street. No partner needed and families and children are welcome. There will be a class for beginners at 7:00pm. This week’s dance features a “foot” Ball theme and tickets will be available as buy one, get one free for new dancers.

The Jonesborough Kiwanis Club Hosting Annual Spaghetti Dinner

The Jonesborough Kiwanis Club will host its annual spaghetti dinner to support the local community. This fundraiser is designed to give back to the kids and schools in our area. The dinner is scheduled for February 25 from 4-7:30 p.m. at Jonesborough Middle School. The dinner is all you can eat and take-outs will be available. For more information go to

Tuesday Night on the Town

Tuesday night on the town – Downtown Country will take the stage at Jiggy Ray’s Pizzaria in Elizabethton – Guido Au’some and the Open Mic Playas will rock things at O’Mainnins in Bristol, Tennessee and the Acoustic Coffeehouse will host Open Mic Night.
