Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland will take to the Barter Theatre stage in Abingdon April 24th through May 26th. Adapted from Lewis Carroll by Catherine Bush, the story features Alice as she chases the White Rabbit down a rabbit hole, tumbles into a curious world with a zany cast of characters including the Mad Hatter, a grinning Cheshire Cat, a mischievous Caterpillar, and the imperious Queen of Hearts. Strong Mountain Women

Come to the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol Friday, April 6th at 7pm for the exhibit: “Strong Mountain Women: How Ballads Power People” featuring the work of English ballad collector Cecil Sharp who traveled the Appalachian region from 1916 to 1918 to document variants of ballad songs and photographed some of the singers who shared their music. There will also be a performance by eighth-generation North Carolina ballad singer and storyteller Donna Ray Norton. Tickets are $5. For more information, go to

Guy Penrod

Guy Penrod will bring his Pray About Everything Tour to the Lincoln Theatre in Marion on Sunday April 29th at 3 p.m. Known for his country styling, Penrod’s music has been applauded in the Gospel as well as country formats. He has appeared on “The Grand Ole Opry” and on numerous country recordings. In 2011, he became a Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee; and he was inducted alongside the Gaither Vocal Band into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2014. Find out more at

Jonesborough’s Open Juried Art Show

Jonesborough’s Open Juried Art Show, one of the area’s premier exhibitions, will be on display 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays from April 14th through May 5th at the McKinney Center. With works ranging from ceramics, acrylics, watercolors, photography, encaustic, metal work, mixed media, and more, art lovers will have the opportunity to see the best in the region. This year’s juror is Arnaldo Ugarte, a Honduran born artist who will lecture April 13th at the International Storytelling Center and will assist with the presentation of awards at the opening reception at the McKinney Center. Thirsty Orange Brew Extravaganza

The 7th Annual Thirsty Orange Brew Extravaganza will be held on April 7th in Johnson City, as the official closer of the Tri-Cities Craft Beer Week. Live Music from The Kindest and Dr. Ocular will be on hand along with entertainment throughout. Grand Tasting tickets include 4 hours of tasting and a commemorative tasting glass. First Pour Tickets receive early entry to the festival while enjoying the first pour of the amazing creations. Tickets can be purchased at Proceeds benefit Trout Unlimited.

The Midtown Men

The Midtown Men will take the stage at the Niswonger Performing Arts Centre in Greeneville on Friday, April 20th at 7:30 p.m. As original cast members of Broadway’s Jersey Boys, these four took the world by storm. From the development of Jersey Boys, through their historic 3 season run on Broadway, The Midtown Men taking their sensational sound on the road, bringing to life their favorite “Sixties Hits” from The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Motown, The Four Seasons, and more. The 2nd Annual Bunny Hop

The 2nd Annual Bunny Hop 5K and Kids’ Dash in Johnson City is set for this Saturday, March 31st. The Kids’ Dash will begin at 9:30 and a joint awards ceremony will be immediately after. A community Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by Munsey Church will be held in Founders Park beginning at 10:30. The entry fee for the 5K is $25 on the day of the race. Kids 12 and under can participate in all events at no cost, and the first 50 kids at the race will receive bunny ears. Register online at
