Special Exhibit at Country Music Museum

Special Exhibit – The Luthier’s Craft: Instrument Making Traditions of the Blue Ridge
now through Mar 4. The craftsmanship and artistry of our region’s stringed instrument makers are celebrated with Luthier’s Craft- a new special exhibit at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum! Luthiers – skilled makers of stringed musical instruments – are both keepers of tradition and innovators. They carry on the old ways of working wood and string to create beautiful and functional instruments, while also bringing new creativity and technology to the fore in their pieces. The Luthier’s Craft explores and documents the traditional arts of fiddle, guitar, banjo, and dulcimer making. Featured craftspeople include guitar maker Wayne Henderson. They’ll be open New Year’s Eve day at 10am.

Basics of Design in Kingsport!

Coming soon to Kingsport its the Building on the Basics of Design, Beginning a New Painting. Participants will learn about planning a painting along with creating a focal point. Subject selection, ground choices and palette decision will be covered. Your Instructor – Thelma Wyatt. Thelma is a native of Kingsport and has traveled extensively. She worked as a CPA and a teacher before retiring. She continues to teach for the KAG. She is an award winning artist in area shows. The class takes place (Thursday) 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Kingsport Renaissance Center.

International Storytelling Center

Each Tuesday, the International Storytelling Center features four of Jonesborough’s finest tellers at 7 p.m. Members are tellers of tales, singers of songs, workers of magic or just honest liars. For more information visit www.storytellersguild.org

The Big O

The Bristol Public Library will offer a free showing of the first four episodes of the hit anime series The Big O on Thursday, January 4th at 5:30 p.m. As part of BPL Anime Theater, the library will provide snacks, drinks, and popcorn for all attendees. A mixture of film noir and post-apocalyptic drama, The Big O features action, adventure, and city-smashing giant robots. Details are on the library’s website, bristol-library.org/

The Jonesborough Repertory Theatre’s presentation of “The Foreigner” By Larry Shue will run March 2nd through the 11th. The winner of two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards as Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production, the comedy revolves around of a shy young man named Charlie who masquerades as a foreigner who speaks no English. Jerry Pierce & The Nightlife Band

Ring in 2018 at the Johnson City Holiday Inn as Honor Flight Northeast Tennessee will host a benefit dinner and dance with great music featuring Jerry Pierce & The Nightlife Band. Honor Flight takes veterans at no cost to see their memorials before time runs out. There will be hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a champagne toast at midnight. The Jungle Book – Kids

Disney’s “The Jungle Book – Kids” will take the stage at the Lincoln Theatre in Marion on Saturday, February 17th at 3 p.m. Adapted from Disney’s beloved animated film and the works of Rudyard Kipling, the “man cub” Mowgli, bounds through the jungle and learns what it means to be human. Leon Kiser Memorial Tribute Show

Mark your calendar for the 22nd Annual Leon Kiser Memorial Tribute Show, Saturday, February 24th at the Wellmont Regional Center for Performing Arts in Blountville. Some of the finest bluegrass and country artists in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia will be featured, including guest of honor, bluegrass legend Larry Sparks. Proceeds will benefit the Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Studies Program at East Tennessee State University and the Mountain Music Museum. Ticket information and the complete lineup will be announced at a later date.

Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver

Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver will take the stage Saturday, February 24th at 7:30 p.m. at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Greeneville. With nearly 40 albums to their credit, Lawson and his band have multiple Grammy and Dove Award nominations, and are 7-time winners of IBMA’s Vocal Group of the Year.
