Fairview Farm and Homestead

The annual Fairview Farm and Homestead car show in Abingdon will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. this Saturday, August 4th. All years, makes and models from classic, custom & muscle cars, trucks, rat rods, imports, motorcycles and tractors are welcome. Registration is only $12 with 20 plus trophies to be awarded and dash plaques given to the first 100 entrants. Spectators can enjoy the sites for just $2 while children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Local food truck Hot Mess Express will offer their famous barbeque and grilled hot dogs. Additional fun includes door prizes from local retailers and 50/50 cash drawing.

Sommerso

The Night Owl Circus performs “Sommerso” at the McGlothlin Center for the Arts This Friday, August 3rd at 7:30 p.m. and then again on Sunday the 5th at 2 p.m.. This underwater tale is told through daring acrobatic stunts on aerial silks. The Lemonade Stand

Come see The Lemonade Stand at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon running now through August 11th. This comedy by Matthew Fowler tells the story of Garret Miller, who is having a midlife crisis. When he gets fired from the only job he’s ever had, he decides to set up a lemonade stand on the street in front of his upscale suburban house. Smokey Robinson

Enjoy the legendary Smokey Robinson on Sunday August 12th at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Greeneville. Between 1960 and 1970, the Grammy® Award winner would produce 26 Top 40 hits with The Miracles including several Top 10 hits such as “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me,” “I Second That Emotion” and the #1 Pop hit, “The Tears Of A Clown.” This performance is a fundraising event for Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City. Disney’s Newsies

The 2018 Appalachian Fair

The 2018 Appalachian Fair is set to take place August 20th through the 25th at the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray. An educational and entertaining family event for the past 92 years, the fair will feature competitive exhibits for Youth, Livestock and Farm and Home, with Main Stage Country Entertainers each night, automotive sports in the Appalachian Arena, and local pageants and talent competitions on the Museum Stage. Midway provided by the number one midway in America – The Drew Exposition. Matt Sanders w/ Sorrel will take the stage at The Willow Tree Coffeehouse and Music Room in Johnson City this Saturday at 8 p.m. With musical roots reaching from the delta blues to James Taylor, from Ray Charles to Damien Rice, Baton Rouge native turned Tennessee singer and songwriter Matt Sanders crafts meaningful music that resonates with crowds. ABINGDON CIVIL WAR WEEKEND!

Abingdon Civil War Weekendis happening through the weekend in Abingdon, VA . The Abingdon Muster Grounds will host the 7th annual Abingdon Civil War Weekend, an event for the whole family! Camps will be open today 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sunday, July 28, 2018 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Battles will occur Saturday and Sunday and will feature infantry, cavalry and cannons. A Civil War film will be shown on a large outdoor screen tonight at 8:30 pm. Admission is free! Both Union and Confederate troops used the Abingdon Muster Grounds property during the Civil War. Walk the property where Lieutenant Samuel Vance Fulkerson mustered some of the 37th Virginians, whom he commanded. See the home “Retirement”, which was occupied by invading Union troops late in the war. Visit encampments of rank and file, see firing demonstrations, learn from interpreters, historians. and more. Theatre Bristol auditions!

Theatre Bristol announces August auditions for “Fiddler on the Roof” . The auditions for its November production of Fiddler directed by Glenn Patterson will take place Auguest 5th, 11th, 12th and 13th at Theatre Bristol, 512 State Street in Bristol, Tn. The award winning long running Broadway musical is on stage this fall for the holidays at the Paramount Center for the Arts and everyone is invited to audition. No preparation is required to audition and roles are available for men,, women,, and children. Doors open 30 minutes before the first audition on each of the dates. Callbacks are then on August 16th. The audition will consist of singing, reading, and dancing. Musical pieces will be provided but prepared material will also be welcome.
